Historic moments

June 19, 2010

It was one of those uplifting dinner conversations which every father likes to hear. The young fella had just watched a movie centred around the D-Day landing and was full of questions about 20th Century world history. The HSC student chipped in and began to reveal gemstones as the discussion moved to the origins of the First World War. This was scintillating stuff, thought their father proudly listening in to his two boys having such intelligent conversation at the dinner table. Father felt like a soaring World War 1 air-pilot roaming the skies…German Imperialism, Ferdinand, the great Depression, the Cold War, back to the First World War…and then it happened. The Red Baron suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The HSC Student mentioned Serbia and then Germany in his explanation and the young fella piped up with the comment that sent his father into the downward tailspin:

‘Serbia beat Germany – the score was 1-nil.’
